Val di Miec

  • Variety: Ribolla Gialla
  • Vintage: 2022
  • Appelation: Collio DOC
  • Region: Friuli-Venezia Giulia

This distinctive white wine comes from the Collio DOC appellation, crafted from 100% Ribolla Gialla grapes, known for their vibrant yellow color. The 2022 vintage is a still wine with an alcohol content of 12.5%, sealed with a technical cork. Production is limited, with only 2,000 bottles (or 167 cases) produced, harvested manually at the end of September using the Guyot training method. The vineyard, situated at an altitude of 70m (230 feet) with a south exposure and flysch-marl soil, is home to vines around 20 years old.

The wine undergoes 24 hours of skin contact in stainless steel tanks, followed by hand pressing with an old family press. It matures on the lees in stainless steel tanks until the spring or summer, ensuring a refined development of flavors. Best served at 14˚C (57˚F), this Ribolla Gialla offers a unique glimpse into the tradition and innovation of winemaking in the Val di Mieç vineyard. The name “Ribolla Gialla” reflects the grape’s historical tendency to “re-boil” during fermentation due to high malic acid levels and uncontrolled temperatures, a phenomenon modern winemaking techniques have since mitigated. The “Giallo” in its name highlights the grape’s characteristic yellow hue, adding to the wine’s allure.
